Legitimate Online Jobs?

Are there any legitimate online jobs out there? That’s the question a lot of newbies ask when they search for ways to make money online. What surprises me is that they are actually looking for a job instead of a business model. I am guessing that they just want something simple that doesn’t require any risk on their part, and so they can get paid for the work done instead of hoping for their business to make money in the future.

So let’s look at some of the most popular online jobs advertised out there.

Data Entry Jobs – While there might be some legitimate ones out there most are not worth your time. I am talking about the ones where you are required to pay an entry fee. The data entry they are selling is affiliate marketing. They will basically tell you to post affiliate links all over the place and hope for some traffic so you can get paid. There is absolutely no guarantee you will make any money. Why not just purchase a good course on affiliate marketing or do some research on it yourself, right?

Paid Surveys – Some people actually got paid for taking surveys online but it’s not easy to qualify for them. Most companies have very specific requirements that need to be met before they allow you to finish the survey and get paid. I have actually sold paid surveys stuff before which I am not proud of, and I can tell you right now that I wouldn’t waste my time on it. You could maybe pull $40-$100/month from it at the most. If you search Google for paid surveys sites you will find tons of them out there and most are charging a fee to get access to their list of companies. There are also some free ones out there as well, but those most likely will promote CPA offers to you instead of actually giving you any real info on companies that pay.

Mystery Shopping/Product Testers – Same thing as with paid surveys. There are some legitimate companies out there, but again it’s not easy to get into. The sites selling access to their directory with supposedly all the info is a total waste of time and money in my opinion.

So are there any legit jobs for regular people online?

Yes, there are and it’s called freelancing. There are sites like Odesk.com, Elance.com, or Freelancer.com where you can bid on projects that people need to get done. You can actually make a decent living doing this. It all comes down to what kind of skills you have to offer. If you are a programmer and know how to work with PHP, C++, or other programming languages, you can easily find tons of work out there. Companies hire programmers all the time. It doesn’t have to be complicated either. Most of the stuff is very simple like working with WordPress, coding some simple php scripts etc.

If you are a good writer you can write content and get paid well for it as well. A lot of websites need content writers. Some people need ebooks written, or press releases.

If you know how to work with video, or you are a good graphic designer, you will get plenty of work as well.

So definitely there are plenty of online jobs out there that people can do. The problem is that they don’t want to do any work and just want money magically appear in their bank account somehow. Sure, if you are good at marketing and know how to build high traffic sites it’s definitely possible to make money while you sleep 🙂  but still you will need to do the initial work to get there. Either way, there is no easy way out.
