There has been a lot of buzz lately about making money selling premium domain names or flipping I should say. It’s totally legitimate business model but you need to know how to snatch up domain names that someone might actually want to buy. Most if not all short premium domain names are taken so I wouldn’t waste my time trying to find any, but you can still cash in on this by simply following the latest trends or registering domain names with SEO value.
One way to do this is to watch Google trends for example. Check out what topics are hot and what people are searching for right now and then try to register a domain name with that keyword phrase in it.
Second, you can do some keyword research and find keyword domain names with minimum 5000 searches per month. You can use Google keyword tool for that.
You could also, register domain names that expired. There are a few good services out there that monitor domain name that are expiring and then let you backorder them. This is actually a very smart strategy because some of them have existing page rank and backlinks which makes them more valuable as well.
So how do you sell them? Go to flippa.com and list them for auction. You could also try Sedo.com or Afternic.com. It’s important that in your listing details you include the selling points of that domain name. Show screenshots of searches per month the keyword gets or the hot topic trends etc.
You could make a decent income doing this. Some domain names sell for $1000s but if you could just sell a few each week for a few hundred dollars that wouldn’t be bad either and it doesn’t require that much work. You don’t have to write content for them or develop sites. You just buy it and then flip it.
It’s definitely a cool strategy for someone who needs extra cash fast. You could spend 2-3 hours per week finding good domain names and listing them on auction sites. That’s all there is to it.
